The Scarlet Ibis

Could "The Scarlet Ibis" be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children (and other people) with disabilities? Why or why not? Could it help someone who has a family member with a disability? Why or why not?

This story can help raise awareness and sensitivity for disabled children because it can teach kids who have disabled siblings to just not push them too hard. It can help someone who has a disabled family member because at least they would be able to talk otherwise it would be horrible.

the scarlet ibis could be used to raise awareness and sensitivity towards children with disabilities because people will be more aware of this and will start to help and think more deeply into curing and helping these kids. it could help someone who has a family member with a disability because that person would be able to take into the fact that their family member is a human being too.

Yes "The Scarlet Ibis" be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children with disabilities because it can encourage them to overcome an obstacle that they have. 1.yes, because they will think that u can't rush helping someone who has a disability.
2.well in the idea that the narriator helped out doodle to teach him how to walk could give a idea for someone who has a family member who is disabled.

I so think that this story could be used to help and raise money for children with disabilities because there are lots of people who think this is sad and want to help from other kids dying. It could also help someone with a family member with a disability because they wont want that family member either to dies or suffer and they would want to prevent that so if someone is being mean to someone disabled then this may open their eyes. They might now see oh this person may or may not be close to death but if your mean open those eyes and be nice. Not pitty nice but nice because you want to be nice.

The scarlet ibis can be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children with disabilities because it explains that people with disabilities can practically do the same things other people can do. But they have to be watched because they can get hurt. Like in the story the big brother pushes Doodle to walk and run. Doodle listens to his brother to learn because he wants his brother to be proud of him. At the end doodles brother stops watching Doodle and he dies.

The story also helps a person with a family member that has a disability because it shows them that they should not push their family member to do something they can't and should appreciate the time they have with them. If a disabled person gets pushed to do something they can't they might get hurt.

I think The Scarlet Ibis could be used to raise awareness and sensitivity to children, as this story touches the heart and makes you realize what it is like to be a child with a disabled brother. However, I don't believe it would help someone who has a family member with a disability. "Doodle" did nothing wrong. It was mostly his older brother's fault for him dying. Just saying! :)

Yes i think that the scarlet could raise awareness to people or children with disability's. Because they if you want to teach them a lot of physical things then you have to take it with a passe that they feel comfortable with. It could help family members as well because they will learn how to pay much more attention with them and not force anything upon them.

Yes, The Scarlet Ibis could be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children with disabilities because it would show people how difficult it is to have a disability and how they can do things and get better but there are limits.

Yes, the story would help someone who has a family member because it shows how everyone in the family feels and maybe it will help to start talking about their feelings.

" The Scarlet Ibis" can be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children with disabilities because this sad story can teach brothers or sisters to appreciate that they have them alive and with them. This can help a family member with a disability because that person can see the love that people have for him even of he/she has a disability. Pride can sometimes beat love but not always.

The Scarlet Ibis could be used to raise awareness sensitivity towards children because a young child dies of his didability, and thats unfortuante. It can help raise awareness because people who care and have a heart know why this is sad and horrible.
This story can help someonewho has a family member with a disability because it can help them not be selfish and embarassed of a family members disability.

I think that "The Scarlet Ibis" can help families with a member with a disability, so that they know not to push them to do something they can't. They will realize that it's more important to accept the member for who they are, not something you want them to be. It can also help children with disabilities to let them know that it's okay to be disabillitated. If someone tries to push them to do something they can't, they might know the outcome of what'll happen.

I think the "Scarlet Ibis" can be be used to raise awareness to people with disabilities and children because the story showed how much Doodle believed in himself and his brother. Doodle had many problems and was denied that he could learn anything, but he loved his brother so much, he almost forced himself to learn. He ended up walking and i believe that is an inspiration and a miracle! (Even though Doodle died and the story is fiction.)
I believe it would help someone who has a family member with a disability because they would be able to relate to the story well.

well i think it could possibly be used to raise awareness of children with disabilities. It could be used because it shows that sometimes people or children with disabilities sometimes are stressed because they feel the need to be normal and sometimes the stress over power them and they can get sick.
It can help someone with a family member who has a disability. It can help them because it show that you shouldn't be embarrassed of them. I have a cousin who has mental disabilities and people stare at him and it bothers me because he's just like anyone else he is no different then me or some random stranger.

Joses Galdamez said...

I think "The Scarlet Ibis" will in some way raise awareness of people with disabilities , but maybe to those who treat these people with disrespect. Those who do these such things might start to feel bad about what they did or what there doing, causing them to stop and help them to cooperate in this world as regular people. If the family puts them in this kind of effort, then it can help those who are a part of a family that is disabled.

I don't know if that story would raise awarness to kids with a disability. But, parents and brothers and sisters probably thought about kids who do have do have an autistic problem.
My brother is autistic, and when I finished story, I deffinitly thouught of him. So, yes, in away it could raise awareness to kids such as my brother.

I think that "The Scarlet Ibis" could be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children because many children can relate to having a younger brother or sister, and it teaches them to be thankful for what they have as a family and to not try to change anything about it

In my opinion i do not really think that it would help spread awareness because most people do not like to read so some people would not take the time to read but as far as it goes for sensitivity i think it would make anyone who reads this story or anyone who has heard of this story gets a little sensitive only could blooded people would not feel bad. Well this story could help someone with a family member by touching them in a way that makes them feel that they should help with a disabled family member.

Yes, this story could be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children with disabilities because it shows that even though children with disabilities can learn to do some of the things that an average person can do, it is not good to push them too far because that can hurt them physically and/or emotionally and they are not capable of doing everything the average person can. I think it that this story could help someone who has a family member with a disability because if they don't know it already, reading this story would help them understand that they shouldn't push them too far and that they should just accept the way they are because people with disabilities love their family the way they are, so their family should love them the way they are too.

I don't think the scarlet ibis would just relate to disabled people, It can relate to all weak people in the world. It relates to them because the scarlet ibis was really weak and was far away from home, when weak people "not just disabled" are far away from their "safe zone" they can fail to succeed in things, Doodle couldn't run that fast to get out of the storm and survive.

I think that this story can help to raise sensativity to a disabled family member or friend. I think that this story can raise sensativity twards anyone who is disabled because you should try not to push anyone to hard. You should keep in mind the disability. You should also try love them the way that they already are, and ocasionally try to teach them new things without pushing them to hard. This story could help someone who has a friend or sibling with a disability. It shows how you should try to treat anyone disabled the same as anybody else.

I think that the "The Scarlet Ibis" could be used to help raise awareness and sensitivity toward children (and other people) with disabilities by teaching people that, when someone say's stop! you have to listen to them because they fill like if they reached their Maximum reaching point and that they cant go no longer! I think it can help raise sensitivity and awareness towards children with disabilities because in the story "The Scarlet Ibis", Doodle has a disability that impairs his walking abilities as well as his mental abilities. In this story Doodle goes through a lot of hardships, and in the end he unfortunately ends up dying. This can really help someone with a family member that has a disability because it can bring awareness on how one is to treat them, not to push them too far, and to always be understanding and cooperative.

For some reasons, it may help some people with disabilities but for some people it may not. Some people might push them to far like in the "Scarlet Ibis" and might actually end up hurting the one they love or worse.
It is the same thing for someone with a disability in your family, you feel bad for them because they cannot do the things that you can do. So you push them to achieve those goals, but sometimes you can push them to far and hurt them when your just trying to help them. So no it cannot help them.

You should love them for who and/or what they are. I think this story would be a good lesson for families who have a disabled family member because it is teaching them to accept those disabled members as they are and not to be ashamed by them.
